Treatment
Dr Eleanor Wakerly offers three main types of treatment: individual therapy, group therapy, or consultation.
The number and length of sessions are tailored to your individual needs.
All treatment is planned with a clear ending.
A firm diagnosis is not required to begin therapeutic work
Individual Therapy
- CBT and Integrative Therapy
Individual therapy offers one-to-one sessions focused on understanding your difficulties and working towards meaningful change.
Treatment is tailored to you, often combining approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy (NT), and theory from Psycho-Analysis.
An example: a 12 week course of 1 hour sessions supporting trauma recovery, using CBT alongside other approaches where helpful.
Individual therapy is guided by a formulation of how your difficulties developed and are being maintained. Formulations stem from an initial assessment and this shared understanding guides effective, personalised therapy and is reviewed throughout treatment.
A minimum of six sessions of individual therapy is usually recommended, with the option to continue if helpful.
Group Therapy in Kent
- Anxiety, Depression
Group therapy brings together people experiencing similar difficulties. Sessions take place regularly, either in person or online, with the same group members.
It provides a supportive space to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and feel less alone. For some, it can also be a helpful step towards individual therapy.
An example: a weekly group supporting people with depression, focusing on recognising patterns and building strategies to manage symptoms.
Consultation
- Professional or Family Support
Consultation involves regular discussions, either in person or by telephone, with the person or people supporting someone’s care. This may include healthcare or social care professionals, employers, family members, or carers.
The aim is to develop a better understanding of the person’s needs and to explore practical ways of supporting them.
An example: our work with dementia support workers to adapt communication and care approaches, helping the person remain as independent and socially connected as possible.
Therapeutic Approaches
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A structured, goal-focused therapy that explores the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develops practical ways to cope with distress.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
A skills-based approach (often delivered in groups) that helps with managing intense emotions and long-standing difficulties.
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
Focuses on identifying recurring patterns in relationships and behaviour, often developed earlier in life, and finding new ways forward.
Systemic and Narrative Approaches
These approaches consider how relationships, family, and life experiences shape our difficulties, and help people reframe and reshape their personal stories.
Psychodynamic / Psychoanalytic Approaches
A more open-ended approach that explores unconscious patterns and how past experiences may influence present relationships and emotions.

Important: A firm diagnosis is not required to begin therapeutic work
Therapy is tailored to you as an individual, rather than following a single fixed approach.
If you are unsure whether therapy would be helpful, you are welcome to get in touch to discuss your situation.
Sessions take place in Eleanor's studio space in Margate, online, or as a home visit as required.

There are benefits of to face-to-face therapy, versus online or remote.
In person therapy:
• Enhances the accuracy of your psychological formulation.
• Increases chances of observations that might be important and not picked up on screen.
• Means fewer outside distractions, no interruptions.
